Anime Boston 2013 Reconsiderations

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 10, 2013, 6:10 PM

I've been thinking about animeboston...

Since I'm not going to be having a car, it's a bit more tricky.

It's going to be about $110 to ride the train/bus round trip, (a MTA/greyhound combination)
who knows what for hotel &
the hotel will have to have shuttle service or public transport to the convention hall or else I'll be paying the big bucks to attend a convention

This is the most straightforward plan I have the time/energy to explore right now..
I'm kind of running on a hectic schedule so it's unclear when I'll have time to explore other options, like renting a car, zipcar, borrowing yeahgirl's car... who the hell knows.

But the facts are still certain:
1. I do not have a table there (financial risk of attending this convention is high)
2. The convention happens one week after the end of the spring semester (prep time is limited)

Ugh.. why am I even thinking about going? I'm going to be busy with searching for a job / classwork for this...
Paintings has to wait!

I'm seriously so stressed out that I'm even reconsidering things I've already decided against.

@_@ I'mm starting to put feelers out for anime boston hotel, since fanime is AA is still not up chances are i'm just not going to fanime at this point. If you're not driving i think a closer hotel would be fine as long as you can split it between like.. 8 people.. roflsndglhg

I'm so-so aiming for animenext in NJ, but the chances that I'll score a table is kinda low (either I won't remember to check back the day they go official, I won't be ABLE to check on that day, and high chance of not getting in)

fortunately it's only a couple hours away from where I live so it will be easy to drop off a couple paintings on a friday and then pick them back up on sunday, all whilst sleeping in my own bed each night. 8) so no big deal if I don't get a table. Would be nice though!

Now if I could just find the time to work on some stuff... :(

Dang i just saw AN has a 1 table per studio/sign up policy or else i'd offer to sign up for two tables if you were busy @_@. Looks like they're hella strict about having friends help. East coast rulllesss so strict compared to west coast haha. I'm iffy about AN, but it's cause i know even LESS people in that area than AB, at least i've been to boston a few times, XD. but cons a con, gotta make moneh :U

what new paintings are you planning btw?

I have 3 sketched out, but I'm working on one painting.. well.. I was working on it, but I haven't been home much so it hasn't been worked on in weeks. Now it's tough to get myself into the zone.

Not that my painting conditions are perfect anyway.. I'm in my room, so I'm cramped, it's winter so it's dark, I keep ruining sweaters because it's too cold to paint without any... but the big thing is I'm not home half the week, and when I am home I'm bogged down with homework and housework or just don't have the energy to accomplish anything.

Oh yea i saw that one :D

I'm sorry your working conditions are so poor :(, spring temps come faster! Maybe the warmer temps will give a little energy too, i'm way less productive when it's cold and over cast ._.

It probably isn't worth the trouble of going, you outline pretty clearly how much trouble it would be for yourself.. As much as I love Anime Boston I feel that some of the shenanigans they have started pulling in recent years really make the con not worth the effort.

It was the first large-scale convention I've gone to, so it has sentimental value for me.. I don't know what's been up recently, but every convention has its fair share of drama.

Yes, all conventions have their drama. I was mostly talking about how the sign-ups for their AA opened at random time on specific day. I find that approach to be worse than a lottery sign up. I decided that trying to go to AB was not worth it if I would have to refresh a webpage all day to try and get a table.

At least it wasn't really random, it was posted on the forums that it would be on the hour (11:00, or 12:00, or 1:00 etc). Anime Next is going to be COMPLETELY random time :/

I actually did not know that. I only checked the website and not the forums. The fact that they only posted that detail on the forums is also worrying to me. I can't even believe another convention is doing it that way. It just seems like the worst plan ever.
